On Monday, the city of Baltimore erupted into violent riots, looting and arson. This violence came after the funeral for Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old who had his spine severed and died while in police custody.
President Obama sent a delegation to Gray’s funeral, headed up by Obama aide Broderick Johnson, a Baltimore native and chairman of the My Brother’s Keeper Task Force, a group focused on keeping young minority males out of trouble. Johnson was accompanied by two other officials from the Obama administration, very similar to the contingent the President sent to Michael Brown’s funeral in Ferguson, Mo. last year.
Keep in mind that Obama didn’t send any representatives to the funeral for Chris Kyle, the highly acclaimed Navy SEAL sniper who was shot and killed by a fellow veteran he was trying to help. Nor were any high-level delegates present at British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s funeral.
It seems strange that a President would send representatives to the funerals of two criminals, but not to the memorial service of a decorated military veteran or a former head of state.
Why would Obama give praise attention to black men with criminal backgrounds, and ignore a leader and warrior who truly deserve respect?
