A Liberal initiative that never should have begun is now showing how harmful it really is after “drag queen story time” put dozens of children within reach of a convicted sex offender.
The Houston Public Library hosts the controversial event, but has now been forced to admit that it failed to check the background of one drag queen who is a registered offender.
The Houston Chronicle reported that Albert Alfonso Garza was convicted in 2009 of aggravated sexual assault of an 8-year-old.
KTRK-TV shared the statement that the library released following the discovery of Garza’s past.
“In our review of our process and of this participant, we discovered that we failed to complete a background check as required by our own guidelines. We deeply regret this oversight and the concern this may cause our customers. We realize this is a serious matter,” the statement read.
The library also tried to comfort distressed parents involved in the program by sharing that none of the speakers are left alone with the children. They also stated that they have never had a complaint of inappropriate behavior.
Yet it appears that this incident is further proof that “drag queen story time” has been ill fated from the start.
